Garnet’s chemical formula varies, but commonly includes (Fe,Mg,Ca)3Al2(SiO4)3, and it rates 6.5 to 7.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, with a vitreous luster that enhances its vivid color. Accompanying the garnets are porcelain-white Feldspar crystals, belonging to the triclinic or monoclinic systems depending on the variety, known for their pearly to vitreous luster and a hardness around 6 to 6.5.
