About this specimen
A long dark tourmaline crystal runs almost vertically through a white quartz-rich piece. Narrow reflective lines emphasize its length, and greenish areas appear along parts of the crystal. Smaller dark fragments and warm-toned material occur near the lower edge.
The pale quartz forms most of the specimen’s outline, enclosing or backing the larger tourmaline on either side. The long crystal follows the white quartz surface toward an outer margin. This association is defined by the strong linear dark element against a much broader pale, irregular host.
Locality: Brazil. Weight: 15 g (0.53 oz). Dimensions: 2 × 1.5 × 3 cm (20 × 15 × 30 mm; 0.79 × 0.59 × 1.18 in).
