About this specimen
A compact, roughly rounded black tourmaline piece presents a broad reflective face crossed by closely spaced lines. The broad black face can catch a strong pale reflection across its surface. The surrounding edges are irregular and visibly rougher.
This marked change is a lighting response rather than evidence of a pale mineral coating. Observable features are the dark body, pronounced linear texture and contrast between a broad face and uneven margins. Closely spaced surface lines cross the principal dark face, with the strongest reflections concentrated along the raised areas.
Locality: Brazil. Weight: 15 g (0.53 oz). Dimensions: 2 × 0.5 × 2 cm (20 × 5 × 20 mm; 0.79 × 0.20 × 0.79 in).
